Antonius (Tony) Verheijen is the Operations Manager for C?te d¡¯Ivoire, Benin, Guinea, and Togo since July 1st, 2023. He previously was the Operations Manager for Afghanistan, based in Kabul and before that served as the Country Manager for Tunisia and Country Manager for Serbia. He has also worked for the Public Sector Management and Governance department in the Europe and Central Asia region, served as Manager of the Public Sector and Governance department in South Asia and as Lead Public Sector Management Specialist for East and Central Africa. A Dutch national, he joined the Bank in 2002 as Senior Public Sector Specialist.
Prior to joining the Bank, he worked as Chief Technical Adviser for the UNDP in Bratislava, Slovakia, and held positions at the OECD and at the European Institute of Public Administration. He has also held teaching and research positions at the College of Europe, Leiden University and the University of Limerick. Recently published work includes ¡®Globalization and Civil Servants (Bristol University Press, 2022)¡¯ and ¡®Logged On, Smart Government Solutions from South Asia (World Bank, Peer Reviewed publication series, 2015)¡¯.
Mr. Verheijen graduated from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam (MA in Public Management), holds an MA in International Relations from the Universit¨¦ Libre de Bruxelles and a PhD from Leiden University.
