The Tokyo Development Learning Center (TDLC) program, a partnership of the Government of Japan and World Bank Group, is honored to host the World Bank Smart Cities Conference in Yokohama, Japan.
Urbanization is occurring at an unprecedented pace, and it is forecasted that two thirds of the world’s population will be living in urban areas by 2050. Demand for services in urban areas is therefore increasing rapidly, and the capacity of local governments to manage this demand is the key challenge.
A Smart City Approach is one solution that promotes innovation and competitiveness of cities, as well as citizen engagement, while ensuring that the cities, as the core engine of growth, meet the needs of present and future generations in economic, social and environmental aspects, and boosting shared prosperity among all social classes.
World Bank specialists and invited Smart Cities experts from the public sector, private sector and academia will engage in active dialogues on “How-to” create Smart Cities and maximize the benefits to stakeholders. Highlights of the discussions will include: 1) how cities become Smart Cities and what are the challenges and solutions they encounter, 2) how cities can strengthen competitiveness through Smart Cities, 3) how Quality Infrastructure Investment (QII) contributes to tackling urban challenges and enables Smart Cities, 4) how Smart Cities can promote stakeholder engagement, and 5) how Smart Cities impact local government finance and property value.
