Prior to his appointment, Sahr Kpundeh was the World Bank Country Manager for  Zambia based in Lusaka from August 2019 to June 2023. He has held various positions in the Bank including Country Manager of South Sudan based in Juba (2015-2019); Lead Regional Strategy Specialist in the Governance Global Practice; Regional Adviser for Governance and Anti-Corruption (GAC) in the Africa Region¡¯s Core Operational Services Unit. He has authored articles on governance and anti-corruption as well as edited several books. Some of his published books and Monographs include the following: Building State Capacity in Africa: New Approaches, Emerging Lessons (World Bank, 2004); Politics and Corruption in Africa: A Case Study of Sierra Leone (University Press of America, 1995); USAID Handbook for Fighting Corruption (USAID Technical Publication Series, 1998); Corruption and Integrity Improvement Initiatives in Developing Countries (UNDP/OECD, 1998); Curbing Corruption: Toward a Model for Building National Integrity (1999, ľ¹ÏÓ°Ôº). Prior to joining the Bank, Dr. Kpundeh was Senior Research Associate at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington D.C, where he led work on Democratization, including editing a book entitled; Democratization in Africa: African Views, African Voices (National Academy Press, 1992). Dr. Kpundeh received his Ph.D. and Master¡¯s degrees from Howard University in Washington, D.C., with concentration in African Political Systems, Political Economy, and International Relations. He is a US Citizen and a national of Sierra Leone.
