Syud Amer Ahmed is the Lead Economist and Program Leader for Human Development (HD) covering Bangladesh and Bhutan, based in Dhaka. Amer has published in the areas of climate change, skills, labor, growth, and demographics. His work on HD issues have covered a range of regions and topics, and has featured prominently in analytical, strategic and operational engagements. His work has addressed issues like labor market programs in Sub-Saharan Africa, the impacts of changes in education on inequality, the global cost of anti-microbial resistance, and the implications of demographic change on development. In the South Asia region Amer has focus on jobs and migration issues, leading analytical and operational engagements on these topics in Bangladesh and Bhutan, in addition to overall coordination of the Human Development portfolio.

Prior to his current position, Amer worked as a Senior Economist in the World Bank¡¯s Development Prospects Group and Social Protection and Jobs Global Practice, among other units.

Amer received his PhD in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University, where he specialized in international trade.
