Open a Bank Account at BFSFCU for a G5 Visa Holder

Summary

G5 visa holders who are employed by G4 staff members of the World Bank Group or IMF are eligible for membership at the .

  • The G4 principal does not need to be a member of BFSFCU for the G5 visa holder to qualify for membership on his/her own.
  • Membership with BFSFCU is not conditional based on visa status; BFSFCU is not obligated to monitor G5 visa expiration dates.
  • Employment relationships between G4 and G5 visa holders are governed by the U.S. State Department and local labor laws, with additional restrictions implemented by the Bank Group and IMF.

Action by G5 Visa Holder

Apply for an account at BFSFCU using one of the following methods:

  • Visit one of the BFSFCU branches:

o  Main Complex - 1818 H Street, NW

o  IMF HQ2 - 1919 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

o  IFC - 2121 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

  • Access and then select "Become a Member."

Submit the required documents based on the method of application:

  • If applying in person:

o  A U.S. government-issued social security number or a formal document from the U.S. Social Security Administration office indicating that you have applied for a social security number

If a formal document from Social Security Administration is provided in lieu of a social security number, you have 30 calendar days to provide the social security number. If you fail to provide the social security number, the account will be closed.

o  A government-issued photo identification, such as passport, that is in compliance with the U.S. Patriot Act

o  Completed membership application form (available at the branch) with G4 staff member¡¯s name as sponsor to show membership eligibility

o  Certification of USD account (available at the branch)

o  $5.00 to deposit into the new account

  • If applying online:

o  Application form with G4 staff member¡¯s name as sponsor, to be completed and submitted online.

o  Copy of a government-issued photo identification, such as passport, and $5.00 to deposit into the new account to be mailed to:

Note:

If the G4 staff member has a BFSFCU account, s/he can cash checks, wire funds to other bank accounts, apply for loans, and avail benefits that BFSFCU offers.
