Seminar on Quality Infrastructure Investment

September 12-13, 2018

Tokyo, Japan

  • As highlighted in the G20 Communiqu¨¦ at the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting in Buenos Aires, Infrastructure is critical to boost productivity, enhance connectivity, sustain long-term inclusive growth and provide our citizens with physical and digital access to the new economy. Investment in infrastructure, if done correctly, foster GDP growth in myriad ways and help achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Despite its importance, a persistent infrastructure financing gap remains. Public financing of infrastructure is essential but mobilizing additional private capital is needed to meet global infrastructure needs.

Given limits on available resources to finance investment and necessity for inclusive development in many developing and emerging economies, it is important the resources that are available get utilized for infrastructure investment that offer the greatest value for money and which incorporate smart planning and performance characteristics. Quality Infrastructure, which takes into account not only the cost of construction but also the longevity, safety and cost to operate over the full-lifecycle of the investment and contributes to local human resource development, is an important part of such a process.

The Conference aims to highlight significance of quality infrastructure investment and to address:

    • Highlighting significance of quality infrastructure investment and developing common understanding and good practices of such investment
    • Data collection and benchmarks for quality infrastructure investment
    • Effective approaches to financing quality infrastructure investment and mobilizing resources
    • Effective governance for quality infrastructure
    • Environmental and social aspects in infrastructure investment
    • Project preparation, planning and procurement ¨C practices to support quality infrastructure investment
    • Technology and innovation in support of quality investment in infrastructure
