As developing countries, like the Philippines, grow their economies and lift millions out of poverty, they may also experience growing inequality. This is reflected in the report, "Overcoming Poverty and Inequality in the Philippines: Past, Present and Prospects for the Future." The report is a comprehensive look at the Philippine inequality landscape as it identifies drivers of inequality, covers the aftermath/aftereffects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and discusses the role of policy and policy possibilities.
At the report launch, we aim to discuss (a) the important drivers of inequality and how this will affect the country¡¯s ability to meet its development goals including green, resilient, and inclusive development; and (b) identify opportunities for policy and possible partnerships among the public and private sector to manage the negative effects of inequality.
The event will begin with a keynote address, followed by a presentation by the World Bank team on the main findings of the report. The report highlights will then be followed by a panel discussion and an open forum. The panel will comprise representatives from government, the private sector, civil society, and academia.
