IDAHOTB 2020 Recap: Breaking the Silence on the SOGI Data Gap

For this year¡¯s International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOTB) commemoration, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) jointly collaborated on a virtual program of events with a focus on research and data.Hundreds of people from across the world joined us from May 18-22 to draw attention to the discrimination, exclusion, and violence LGBTI people continue to face globally. The multilateral development Banks contributed to this year¡¯s IDAHOTB global theme ¡°Breaking the Silence,¡± by reminding of the importance of data generation that is inclusive of sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) minorities in order to support countries in building inclusive and resilient communities. In this podcast, Clif Cortez, the World Bank¡¯s Global Advisor on SOGI, speaks with Louise Cord, Global Director for Social Development, and Maninder Gill, Global Director for the Environmental and Social Framework (ESF), to highlight some of the main takeaways of this year¡¯s commemoration and the important role the MDBs are called to play in closing the SOGI inclusion data gap.
