Steven Schonberger, World Bank Regional Director for Sustainable Development, discusses how Kazakhstan can decarbonize its economy on the path to green and sustainable growth. Kazakhstan has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 and to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 15% by 2030, under the terms of the Paris Agreement. Globally, the World Bank Group is ramping up its climate action through the 2021-2025 Climate Change Action Plan, which envisions increasing climate finance, improving country diagnostics, and transitioning key systems that generate 90% of GHG emissions. On 20-23 September 2021, Steven Schonberger visited Kazakhstan to reiterate the World Bank¡¯s continued support to the country in transitioning toward green and sustainable growth.
