Across the globe, urban areas are growing by 1.4 million people each week. Most of this growth is happening in the developing world, where cities are facing growing risks from natural disasters. As the climate changes, these disasters will become more common, and more destructive. Established in 2017, the City Resilience Program is an initiative, managed by GFDRR and implemented by the World Bank, aimed at increasing financing for urban resilience.
