Water and energy management in Central Asia are intrinsically linked. Recognizing the benefits of strengthened regional cooperation and governance of shared water and energy resources, the World Bank launched the Central Asia Water and Energy Program (CAWEP) in 2009. Since 2018, the program is being implemented in partnership with the European Union, Switzerland and the UK.
