When designing infrastructure projects, careful consideration must be given to their impacts on ecosystems, biodiversity, and climate. Encouraging the use of green financial instruments can be achieved through transparent disclosure of environment-related information.

QII.3 PRINCIPLE IN ACTION

  • Quality Infrastructure Investment is making a difference in development

    In 2015, the government of Tanzania launched the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project (DMDP) to expand the economy and increase the emergency response capacity of the city by improving key urban services and institutional management. Environmental considerations played a major role in the project, in keeping with QII.3. It assessed ecosystem-based interventions in low-income communities to ensure that the construction of urban infrastructure would not harm the environment. Nearly 2 million people in Dar es Salaam will benefit from better roads, facilities, and community upgrades.

  • Quality Infrastructure Investment is making a difference in development

    ľ¹ÏÓ°Ôº is helping Yemen restore critical urban infrastructure and services resilient to climate challenges through the Yemen Integrated Urban Services Emergency Project (YIUSEP), now in its second phase. With a grant from the Quality Infrastructure Investment (QII) Partnership, the project conducted climate risk assessments in 16 cities and built local capacity in disaster risk management, urban resilience, and quality infrastructure design. These activities are laying the foundation for climate adaptation in Yemeni cities
