Overview

ľ¹ÏÓ°Ôº is supporting governments to achieve their digital transformation and inclusion goals sustainably and empowering them to better use data and digital technologies for climate action ¨C reducing emissions, adapting to a changing climate, and building resilience.

Resilient digital transformation

Digital infrastructure is increasingly vulnerable to climate-related risks, such as flooding, severe storms, water scarcity, and extreme heat. These threats can disrupt communications, banking, power-grids, transportation, and government services. To mitigate these risks, the World Bank works with countries to integrate resilience into the design of their digital infrastructure investments and policies.

Low-carbon digital infrastructure

Digital infrastructure and devices generate significant emissions during production and operation ¨C similar to that of the airline industry. ľ¹ÏÓ°Ôº works with countries to incentivize and invest in energy efficient digital infrastructure, devices, and services. It also supports the adoption of renewable energy solutions to power telecommunications and data infrastructure, including last mile connectivity.

Digital technologies and data for climate action

ľ¹ÏÓ°Ôº supports countries to put in place enabling digital foundations and to use digital tools and data to inform climate related policy making and disaster response and spur innovation and adoption of digital tools to support energy efficiency and green energy transition. It also supports countries to ensure continuity of business and access to services following climate incidents and promote economic diversification and transition toward more climate resilient sectors and jobs.
