The theme of the 2015 Overview Course of Financial Sector Issues is Building Financial Sectors that Support Development. This training aims at providing a solid knowledge of the fundamentals of key areas of the financial sector and at engaging in discussions of emerging issues of relevance for policy-makers. This will help participants better understand how to build financial sectors that promote development. Throughout the week-long course participants will have opportunities to ask questions and engage in discussions with renowned scholars and policy experts, who will identify the critical questions related to each topic, explore the analytics of the issues, and share lessons from various countries¡¯ experiences. Invited thought leaders include Viral Acharya (Stern School of Business, New York University), Thorsten Beck (Cass Business School and Tilburg University), Charles Calomiris (Columbia University Graduate School of Business), Simon Johnson (MIT and Peterson Institute for International Economics), and Anthony Saunders (Stern School of Business, New York University), among others. Prominent World Bank and IMF financial sector experts will also share their knowledge and experience at this event.
The course is intended for mid-level officials from central banks, ministries of finance, and financial regulatory agencies in developing countries, as well as staff involved in financial sector operations from international development organizations and the private sector. Prior knowledge of financial sector issues is expected, and we suggest that only those with experience in this field attend. The course will be in English.
