Join this discussion with Sabina Alkire from Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative, who presents findings on gender and multidimensional poverty in situations of forced displacement across five Sub-Saharan African countries. This new research underscores the importance of measuring poverty multidimensionally and shed light on the constraints that displaced women face in terms of education, labor market opportunities, and legal rights.
This approach has been applied and implemented empirically to produce a Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), which includes a tool to identify who is poor, by considering the range of deprivations they suffer. It is used to report a headline figure of poverty (the MPI), which can be unpacked to provide a detailed information platform for policy design.
