More than half of 10-year-olds in most middle-income East Asia and Pacific countries are unable to read and understand an age-appropriate text. With weak foundations, many affected children will never develop advanced skills. This will make it harder to generate the productivity growth needed to propel East Asian and Pacific countries from middle- to high-income status. Improved support for teachers will be critical to strengthening basic learning outcomes. Join the launch event for an in-depth discussion on the concrete policy actions needed to strengthen basic education in the region. The event speakers will be World Bank experts and high-level policymakers from the region. Live event interpretation available in Bahasa Indonesia, Khmer, Mandarin, Mongolian and Vietnamese.
