Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass¡¯s Meeting with Guy Parmelin, Federal Councillor of Switzerland, and Thomas Jordan, Chairman of the Swiss National Bank

BERN, May 17, 2022 ¨C Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Guy Parmelin, Federal Councillor for Economic Affairs, Education and Research of Switzerland and Switzerland¡¯s Governor of the World Bank Group (WBG), and Thomas Jordan, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank.

President Malpass, Councillor Parmelin, and Chairman Jordan discussed support for Ukraine and neighboring countries and the global impact of the war. President Malpass, Councillor Parmelin, and Chairman Jordan exchanged views on inflation and the surge in prices for energy, food and fertilizer and the importance of increasing energy supplies, promoting trade, and building stronger food systems.

President Malpass was pleased to mark the 30th anniversary of Switzerland joining the World Bank and thanked Councillor Parmelin for Switzerland¡¯s generous and increased contribution to IDA20.

President Malpass updated Councillor Parmelin and Chairman Jordan on the WBG¡¯s work on global public goods, fragility, climate change, COVID-19, and crisis preparedness. They also discussed the challenges facing debt sustainability and transparency and the WBG and IMF¡¯s cooperation in encouraging steps to implement the G20¡¯s Common Framework.
