Kazakhstan: 40 Kilometers of History

In the 10¨C14th Centuries CE, communities in what is now Kazakhstan¡¯s Almaty Region became part of the trade routes of the Silk Road. That legacy continues today, with Kazakhstan acting as a crucial hub for international trade. During road work for the World Bank-financed East-West Roads and South-West Roads Projects, workers discovered several rare archeological finds¡ªburial mounds from times long past. Acting on best practices, the contractor took all necessary measures to preserve these historical treasures, which were transferred to a museum so they can be preserved for generations to come.
