COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Response

Highlight and Updates

Latin America is the region hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. The health crisis sharply contracted growth, which has had an enormous social and economic impact, given that it occurred after several years of sluggish economic growth and limited progress in social indicators.

The COVID-19 crisis will have a long-term impact on the region¡¯s economies. Lower levels of learning and employment are likely to reduce future earnings, while high levels of public and private debt may strain the financial sector and slow recovery.

What is the World Bank doing to support the region¡¯s response to COVID-19?

ľ¹ÏÓ°Ôº is swiftly supporting the efforts of Latin America and the Caribbean to address COVID-19-related impacts, through new operations and by redirecting funds from existing projects. Learn more about the World Bank¡¯s operational response to COVID-19 in the region here.

On the research side, the World Bank released a series of studies to provide better knowledge and guidance to countries for an effective COVID-19 response in the region. Learn more here.
