Treasury Summer Internship for College Students

The Treasury Summer Internship is the only program within the World Bank exclusively designed for college students. The program gathers a cohort of up to 16 outstanding undergraduates from around the world each year who demonstrate a strong interest in finance. It aims to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge for an exciting and rewarding career in the industry.

The Internship Experience

Interns join the World Bank on a paid 10-week short-term temporary contract, during which they are expected to work full-time in person in Washington, DC. Interns are issued laptops. And, if required, the World Bank sponsors the appropriate visa for incoming interns to work in the United States.

Each intern follows a unique rotation schedule across the , designed to cater to their individual skills and interests. They receive custom onboarding training in the first week before beginning three successive three-week rotations across treasury teams. Interns end each rotation by delivering a presentation to their respective teams and ultimately conclude their internship by presenting their collective work in a capstone project to the management team.

Moreover, throughout the summer, interns participate in weekly discussions with the program director and attend a career perspectives speaker series to hear from various Treasury officers, managers, and directors. Interns have access to the nearly 300-employee Treasury, including meetings with the Vice President and Treasurer.

The internship lays the foundation for an intern to progress into the role of a Junior Analyst, a two-year position within one specific Treasury team, beginning immediately after the intern's graduation from their degree program.
