The Office of the Executive Director for Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Per¨² and Uruguay (EDS08) represents a group of geographically adjacent, yet relatively diverse South American economies, including high income, upper-middle income, and lower-middle income countries. Three of our countries have been IDA-donors in the past while another used to be an IDA recipient. Our constituency also includes members of different global forums and bodies that aim to strengthen policy coordination to promote financial stability and economic development in different ways, such as the G20, the G24 and the G30, as well as the OECD.
The Executive Director, along with the other 24 Chairs, is responsible for the conduct of the general operations of the World Bank Group (IBRD, IFC, IDA, MIGA), and exercises powers delegated by the Board of Governors.
The Executive Director is a member of the Committee on Governance and Administrative Matter (COGAM) and co-chair of the Gender Diversity Working Group of the Board of Directors. EDS08 also actively participates in deliberations of the other Board Standing Committees -such as the Committee on Development Effectiveness (CODE), the Budget Committee (BC), the Audit Committee (AC) and the Human Resources Committee (HRC). The Chair is part of the G11, an informal group within the WBG Executive Board that aims to enhance the voice of developing countries.
The Office works as a team and plays a strong and proactive role representing its constituency countries while acting in the best interest of the World Bank Group. The Executive Director and the Alternate Executive Director are supported by a team of three Senior Advisors and two Advisors from the countries represented by EDS08, as well as two administrative staff members.
