Many challenges facing African countries transcend boundaries, and conflicts that arise on the continent cut across borders. Regional approaches are essential to address and prevent them. Drawing upon its Strategy for Fragility, Conflict and Violence (FCV) and to fulfill IDA commitments, the World Bank Group supports cross-border regional solutions to help restore the livelihoods of conflict-affected populations, address fragility and climate-related shocks, and support development efforts in the Horn of Africa, Sahel, Lake Chad and Great Lakes regions.
Supporting the Horn of Africa Initiative (Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan) in developing regional infrastructure networks, increasing trade, building resilience to fragility and climate-related risks, strengthening health security and diseases surveillance, and supporting skills development and regional ID4D to streamline the movement of people and goods across borders
Working with countries (Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger) and partners through the Sahel Alliance to improve regional connectivity and mobility, promote women¡¯s empowerment, and enhance resilience by supporting agro-pastoralism activities, food security, agriculture value chains, and cross-border hot spots of fragility
